walking the dog.

most of you know my small amount of dislike for canines. and i hope i dont offend any of you dog owners with these few lines...but im kind of confused.
michael vick is making headlines for raising dogs for dog fighting and it looks like he could end up in jail over it. i guess he raised these dogs to fight, and if they didnt do a good job, they were killed or something.
this blog is not to condone his behaviour in any way...
but now that the dogs are there and no one is claiming them...the state is going to kill them all anyway.
whats the point of putting mr. vick in jail if the government is just going to euthanize them? another case of people getting worked up over something thats not really a big deal...dont you think?

I ran across your journal and thought I'd comment, hope you don't mind.

...At least they are being euthanized in a humane way. The way Vick killed them, if they didn’t fight well, was brutal and inhumane. It was basically torturing the poor dogs who already led a terrible life. If they weren’t bred to fight in the first place the government wouldn’t have to put these dogs down. Most of the dogs are so unhealthy, skinny and ill that they probably wouldn’t survive anyway. Did you see the pictures? Not to mention the amount of behavioral problems they must have. At least this way he is stopped. I am so glad he is going to jail.

...a dog lover...

thanks for stopping by lionamelie. but seriously. they are just dogs. its almost like he is getting into more trouble over a few dogs than if he committed a crime against another human. i just find it somewhat unreasonable that he is going to get jail time for killing dogs (or maybe not even killing them), but its okay for someone else to kill them in a so called "humane" way. i dont even really like michael vick, so im not really upset about him being in jail. just doesnt make much sense to me...thats all.

I had a chance to watch a dog fight in central mexico a few summers back. But declined because of a shoot out that resulted in several by standers being shot, that happend the week before at the same type of match. I regret it to this day...
I agree woth the thought that animal issues are taking resources and media coverage away from human issues.

i see what you're saying, and it makes perfect sense to me...putting him in jail and then killing the dogs anyway is hypocritical...however, leaving them alive to potentially injure people is not safe..and so i can understand why they would put the dogs down.
i am pretty sure i dislike dogs as much as you do but at the same time i can't help but have compassion for living creatures that are treated inhumanely. he should receive some sort of punishment for his actions. dogs that are trained to fight are dangerous...and who's to say that they wouldn't potentially harm a human?
in that sense he is endangering human life and it then becomes a human issue.
just another way to look at it...but i still agree with you.

seeing how i have eaten a dog, my opinion is a likely obvious.

like usual, the media blows thing outta proportion. in ten years there will be an official televised league of dog fighting.

dogs are people too, jeremy.

Jessie…I couldn’t have said it better myself! That was really well said. It’s nice to see that even a person who doesn’t like dogs can still have compassion for those who cannot speak for themselves. I guess I’m just a big animal lover. I love their simplicity and forgiving behavior; that unconditional love you get from them is something not a single human being could ever give. I do agree, however, that animal rights issues are being blown completely out of proportion especially by companies such as PETA, who choose to use animal rights as a way for them to basically make money. I definitely do wish that people cared more about our own race and that human issues were more in the spotlight. Although I’d rather see animal rights issues in the news than what Lindsay lohan is doing next….

shawni

ps.nic your mom told me the eating dog story. haha. gross.

if they are gonna just kill the dogs anyway, why not let them fight each other? you could likely make some money off it.

harvey would win.

jeremy, always looking to make a cheap buck.

kamara, i'm not sure harvey is capable of winning a physical fight..but he would take them in the gitch eating round for sure.

jerms, i have a friend with two pitbulls. if he is ever going to put them down, i'll make sure we get a good meal or a good fight out of them.
but they are awesome dogs.

Jessie is definitely right. pretty sure after I left regina last time he was pooping blue lace underwear he stole from my bag.

also the reason this case is getting so much publicity is not because of what michael vick did but because of who he is.

thats hilarious.
5 years in jail for hurting dogs that get killed after anyways.
haha.
and none of you know how humanely or inhumanely the government will treat them before or while they die. think about what the government does to people, think they are that concerned about some dogs? doubt it.
i bet theres a big dogfight/betting at whichever humane society gets them.

also.

yeah that's true, they probably won't be treated any better by the government but at least the government is stopping him from continuing to breed dogs for the sole purpose of fighting. Those dogs were only bred to fight and shouldn't have been bred in the first place. I'm sure their lives are no better in the government's hands but at least that establishment is being stopped. It's sad that they were even put in this world to lead such terrible lives. I feel so sorry for those dogs. Dogs have feelings just like any other creature on this earth. they did not deserve that life.

ps. dogs aren't for eating; they were put on the earth for companionship...man's best friend right? haha.

goats are for eating.

So an NFL player gets booted out of the league for killing a dog. Has any pro athlete ever lost his job for hitting his wife? Why do we protect animals more than we protect women?
